Members of the Bookham Red Cross regularly meet at the Bookham Grange Hotel, where members are involved in training, fund-raising and having fun. We have already provided first aid cover at a number of duties including the Epsom Derby, school fetes, football matches, the Leatherhead Theatre, Village Days and many more. At our main fund-raising events during Red Cross Week in May, we raised in excess of £2,550 a massive £750 more than last year. A huge thank you to all Bookham residents and to the Leatherhead Rotary Club who helped us with our collection this year.
We have also been lucky enough to have received some medical equipment (commodes and various disability aids) from local residents and these items have been sent to our Medical Loan Centre in Epsom. At a Red Cross evening in June, we were entertained by a talk and demonstration on Reflexology by Christina Walker, a local Practitioner, who had been recommended to us and the photograph shows Christina demonstrating on one of the Red Cross members, Mariam El Baghdady. Our future programme will include sessions on Child Protection, Asthma and Diabetes. We have been extremely lucky in recent years in attracting new members - from teenagers to the ‘Salt and Pepper’ brigade and if you would like to hear more about the Red Cross…..you just have to ask!
