Our November meeting which is also our Birthday/Christmas meeting was a busy day when Gwynd Roberts was our guest. In the morning she took a workshop on mounting lace. Members who joined this class brought a piece of lace they wanted to mount and were told how to go about it. This may seem a relatively straightforward thing to do but in fact can become as important as the lace itself as a piece not mounted correctly can spoil all your work. In the afternoon Gwynd shared her extensive range of baby bonnets collected over many years and it was interesting to listen to how the designs and sizes have changed through the years. Afternoon tea was enjoyed by all especially the cake made by Daniele Harris who has made several cakes for us and we are always grateful for one which is pure indulgence! Next year during the Heritage weekend we shall be holding a one day exhibition. This will be on Saturday 8th September and we are joining forces with St Mary's church. We shall have lace demonstrations in the church followed by a short walk to the exhibition in the church hall. Our members will also be working on their lace and you will be most welcome to come and see what we get up to! More details of this will appear nearer the time. This will be the last article I shall be writing as at our January AGM we shall be voting in three new committee members but future articles will be in good hands so I do hope you will continue to read what we have been doing. If you are interested in joining us you would be most welcome. Please contact Cath Bell on 01306 885067 for more information. Tina Lamborn |
