Dawnay Playgroup

The Dawnay Playgroup have had a busy Spring Term. Back in February the children took part in lots of activities to help them identify the uses of their various senses. They had lots of fun smelling different foods and got very messy making their pancakes in the week of Shrove Tuesday. During World Book week the children were asked to choose their favourite stories and bring in a book from home. They were all encouraged to retell the story and draw or paint characters from the stories.

We have been able to use the garden all term and the children took part in weeding and planting in the vegetable patch and sensory area. We covered the understanding of the seasons and the changes we can observe in the world around us. All children and their parents went onto Bookham Common for a spring walk and the children were encouraged to take lots of photos of the Spring changes they could see. Back in the classroom we created a wonderful montage of all the photographs they took.

One week we covered the theme 'Baby animals' to encourage the aspect of care and concern for living things. We also introduced the relevant names for baby animals we covered.

During the last week the theme was Easter and the children participated in lots of egg and bunny related activities culminating in an Easter Egg hunt at the end of the week.

The Dawnay School have asked the Playgroup to participate in the 24 hour Olympic Torch Relay extravaganza they are hosting on Friday 20th April. All our children will take part in an obstacle course and Olympic activities before we all have a picnic. Fingers crossed the weather stays dry for the 24 hour event.

The Playgroup wish the School the best of luck and hope, with the support of the Bookham community, they are able to keep the Olympic Torch moving for 24 hours.

The Summer Term is always busy for the Playgroup as the children who are in their last term with us, get ready for the transition to their new schools. Alongside our weekly themes we also have a mini beast picnic, Sports Day and this year an exciting Jubilee celebration picnic.

Admissions for The Dawnay Playgroup are now open for 2012/2013 school year. If you would like to see our Playgroup in action or would like more information please call 01372 453796 or check out our website www.dawnayplaygroup.co.uk
