Christmas at The Dawnay

Infant Plays – The Inn Keeper’s Breakfast

Our three Infant classes performed and sang the songs of 'The Inn Keeper’s Breakfast' with confidence and clarity.  One of the delights of a primary school is having young children re-enact the story of the Nativity and whatever form this takes, be it a modern stance or something more traditional, it is always awash with tinsel and teacloths! The Dawnay’s play did not disappoint and got our Christmas celebrations off to a great start.

The Juniors – Keeping Christmas (Christingle Services)

We are fortunate indeed to be able to conduct our two Christmas services for the Juniors at the beautiful church of St Nicolas.  The services are a mixture of Christmas songs and carols as well as readings and the children’s own compositions and writing.  The enthusiasm and enjoyment displayed, the quality of singing by the school’s choir and instrumental groups, as well as other groups accompanying carols, were a joy to behold.  Special mention should be made of the staff choir which also contributed to the evenings, showing children that all members of the school community have a part to play in celebrating this special time of year.  Each evening culminated in the lighting of the Christingle candles held by each child and the singing of ‘Hope of Heaven’ – a truly magical end to the services.

A Little Light Relief!

To finish the term with a little less quality but lots of enthusiasm, we presented a staff pantomime for the children.  This year’s production was Dick Whittington.  Despite much ad-libbing and confusion, everyone got into the pantomime spirit and the much loved pantomime traditions were well used – ‘he’s behind you…’, ‘oh yes he did…’ etc!  We all enjoyed this finale to another successful Dawnay term!
