Plug the Debt This is the theme of a new campaign from Citizens Advice relating to energy suppliers. Since the spring 850,000 electricity customers and 700,000 gas customers have contacted CAB about debt to their suppliers. This winter energy prices are set to rise by about 14% for the average home, the probable cause of major concern when the weather turns cold. Contact your local CAB as soon as the problem arises and get professional advice. Advice Line Citizens Advice in Mole Valley is part of a countywide system called Advice Line. This is a telephone service that quickly connects callers to an adviser who may well be able to resolve the issue straight away. Those needing help should first call Advice Line. If an appointment is then considered necessary the adviser can arrange it. If you have any mortgage or rent arrear worries your local CAB has experienced advisers who can help. The sooner you call them the sooner you will find a solution. You know what they say: ‘A problem shared is a problem halved’. If you are experiencing any financial difficulties contact Advice Line for confidential, independent and free expert advice. Citizens Advice Public Meeting
The annual public meeting was held in Leatherhead in October and John Gladwin, formerly Bishop of Guildford and now national chair of the CAB, gave the keynote speech. His theme was the changing role of CAB and the crucial role played by all voluntary services during the difficult times we are experiencing. Citizens Advice is up to the challenge, strengthening the volunteer base, increasing efficiency and expanding the service deeper into the community. CAB has two very active offices in Mole Valley (Dorking and Leatherhead) to support those in the community who need help or advice.
